The Lake George Donzi Classic Club was founded in 1995 and is the first and longest running enthusiast's club of its kind in the world. The New England Chapter was born at the 1976 Boston Boat Show when a group of wooden boat enthusiasts gathered in admiration around a couple of show winning woodies: Ted Larter's "Scotty Too" Goldcup Racer and Ray Hawe's prized possession, 18' Garwood "Norma Jean". Since its foundation in 1975, The Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc. (ACBS) has grown to become the largest voluntary association in the world dedicated via chapters to the preservation and enjoyment of classic boats in diverse regions. The ACBS includes all styles of classic boats, whether made of wood, fiberglass or steel. The Classic Boat Club of Northern Europe is the latest ACBS chapter, founded in May 2023, and supports all classic boat fans throughout Northern Europe. The Thames Traditional Boat Festival was first held at Fawley Meadows 40 years ago as a rally for like minded enthusiasts who wanted to show off their enthusiasm for the older, traditionally built craft that were fast disappearing from the river Thames.
