    The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago, established by an Act of Parliament in 1961, came into being on June 14th 1962. The Act provides for a coordinated and integrated system of harbour facilities and Port services. The authority is responsible for the provision and maintenance of facilities for the entry and berthing of ships; the landing and embarkation of cruise ship passengers; the loading, unloading, storage and warehousing of cargo both conventional and containerized; the provision and maintenance of equipment for hoisting, lifting and transportation of cargo. The Authority also provides and maintains towage and dredging services, and an inter-island ferry service between Trinidad and Tobago.
