Chesapeake Cowboys are a tight-knit crew of Maryland watermen and seasoned boat handlers who compete in one of the wildest niche sports on the East Coast: extreme boat docking. Born on the Chesapeake Bay, this group blends tradition, grit, and pure adrenaline as they slam throttles, spin on a dime, and thread massive workboats into tiny slips at full speed. They’re hometown heroes, generational fishermen, and blue-collar showmen who bring crowds to their feet every summer. What started as dockside bragging rights has become a full-blown cultural phenomenon—part sport, part spectacle, all Bay pride. These events are more than docking—they’re full-blown festival days. At some events, you can expect live music, great food, family games, local vendors, and the kind of energy you can feel in your chest. Mid Chesapeake Bay Sea and Rescue. Smith Point Sea Rescue, Inc. was officially organized in 1974 as a volunteer sea rescue service. Its 49 members comprise the last remaining Volunteer Sea Rescue unit on the Chesapeake Bay. Members share duties year round, 24 hours a day to maintain equipment, conduct training, and respond to search and rescue missions. Smith Point Sea Rescue covers the middle Chesapeake Bay between the Lower Potomac River and the Rappahannock River. All members are volunteers. During its 34 years, Smith Point Sea Rescue has gone from rather humble beginnings, where members volunteered their boats as well as themselves, to its current formidable and prestigious unit. Today it has three boats to operate rescue services.
