The purpose of the club is the promotion of boating and other aquatic sports in the state of Ohio in general, and Port Clinton in particular. The history of yacht clubs on the Ottawa River begins with the Ottawa River Yacht Club. On the twenty fifth of October 1910 five men met with the Secretary of State of Ohio for the purpose of furthering yachting and its related activities in County of Lucas, Township of Washington city of Point Place. Although they already were an organization called the Ottawa Yacht Club they decided to become a charter organization with the State of Ohio. From henceforth The Club's name became Ottawa River Yacht Club. On November 10th, of the same year, 121 charter members of the Ottawa River Yacht Club petitioned the Stare for Incorporation. The Crew's Nest offers its members an array of activities for those of all ages. The exact date of the club's founding is unclear. The most widely accepted date for founding occurred in 1919. The club's purpose is to promote the sport of iceboating and provide ice boaters an opportunity to discuss the sport and find where the best ice is. The club holds a weekly meeting every Friday night at 8 pm during the winter. They start around Thanksgiving and go until the last Friday in March. They are held at Ottawa River Yacht Club in Toledo. If you are interested in learning more about iceboating, come to a meeting. The club primarily sails on Maumee Bay in Toledo, although traveling does occur if there is good ice.
