The Cruising Club of America was launched in the winter of 1921-22 by a handful of experienced offshore sailors interested in cruising and the development of the cruising type of yacht. Numbering about 1,100, the current membership maintains the same interests, level of achievement, experience, love and respect for the sea. Now, in its 83rd year, the CCA continues to use its collective wisdom and experience to influence "the adventurous use of the sea" through its efforts to improve seamanship, the design of seaworthy yachts, safe yachting procedures and environmental awareness.
