The Haarlemsche Jachtclub (HJC) was founded in 1917 and remains a highly active watersports association and guest marina, with approximately 500 members—about 100 of whom are youth members (under the age of 21). In 1967, an initiative was taken to start a new sailing association in Halden, and an interim board was appointed. On May 5, 1968, all formalities were in order and the Halden Sailing Association was founded. That same year, the association organized its first dinghy regatta on Femsjøen.
