Lillesand Sailing Association was established in 1885. The activity has gone in waves, but has always returned with renewed vigor. For some years from 1925 to 1936 there was almost no activity. During the last world war, the association's activities were down, but the lack of petrol meant that many people got a sailboat, and in the years after the war there was a lot of activity in the association. It slowed down in the 50's, and in a period after 1965 the sporting activity was stopped, but the current board had contact and tried to get new sailors interested without success. Investment in training has since been the main activity of the association, and several hundred children and young people have since received training in sailing and seamanship. Shortly after the revitalization in 1976, adult sailors also joined the association both as touring sailors and regatta sailors. The association has had an increasing support in recent years and today has about 250 members of all ages and has about 35 sea sailors and 30 dinghies in the boat register. Lillesand, Norway
