Commodore Decatur Yacht Club is a not-for-profit sailing club devoted to promoting the sport of sailing on Lake Decatur. Additionally, its members strive to make sailing in Decatur accessible for anyone with an interest in recreational sailing. This is accomplished by providing a safe and friendly environment where individuals can participate regardless of their experience level. CDYC is a sailing club made up of many different individuals and families from around the region. Anyone wanting to sail on Lake Decatur is welcome to become a member. CDYC maintains a fleet of Flying Scots to support club beer can racing and regatta racing efforts. These club sailboats can be charted to race in local and regional races and regattas. In recognition of its activity, the Compagnia della Vela was awarded with the Silver Star for sporting merits by CONI in 1990 and, in 1995, received the Gold Star for sporting merits directly from the hands of the President of the Italian Republic Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, for the important results achieved in its history and for the excellent level of preparation demonstrated in the organization of very important sporting events. The Crab Orchard Lake Sailing Association is located in beautiful Southern Illinois on the 6985 acre Crab Orchard Lake. COLSA was established in 1997 after a nearly 15 year absence of organized sailing at the Lake (see history pages). Today the organization supports numerous activities, including a race series held in conjunction with the Southern Illinois Community Sailing Club (SICSC). COLSA also encourages participation through monthly meetings that feature programs of interest to all sailors. We also organize moonlight sails and other on-water activities.
