The Western Native Trout Challenge (WNTC) is a multi-state program hosted by the Western Native Trout Initiative. The Western Native Trout Challenge invites anglers to help celebrate our western legacy by catching native trout and char in each of the 12 participating Western states, at their own pace. By attempting to catch 18 species throughout 12 states (at the master angler level), participants can enjoy the adventure of a lifetime! The Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBTJV) is a unique partnership between state and federal agencies, regional and local governments, businesses, conservation organizations, academia, scientific societies, and private citizens working toward protecting, restoring and enhancing brook trout populations and their habitats across their native range. A diverse group of partners, including state fish and wildlife agencies, federal resource agencies, Indian tribes, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations, are working collaboratively to conserve eastern Brook Trout and their habitats. Established as the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBTJV), this Fish Habitat Partnership has already produced several range-wide population assessment of wild Brook Trout; completed extensive work that identifies key threats to wild Brook Trout and their habitats; and developed conservation strategies that protect, enhance and restore wild Brook Trout. The Sea-Run Brook Trout Coalition is a non-profit organization established for the purpose of protecting and restoring sea-run brook trout populations and the coastal watersheds that they depend upon. Over the past two centuries, sea-run brook trout populations have declined throughout their range, with the most dramatic losses occurring in the southern part of that range in coastal watersheds between Long Island, N.Y. and Maine. Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is an environmental education program in which students in grades k-12: raise trout from eggs to fry; monitor tank water quality; engage in stream habitat study; learn to appreciate water resources; begin to foster a conservation ethic; grow to understand ecosystems. Most programs end the year by releasing their trout in a state-approved stream near the school or within a nearby watershed. Arlington, Virginia

The WTT acts as a catalyst in stimulating hands-on, in-the-water, habitat-improvement projects at a grass-roots level, effectively helping others to help themselves in the most cost-effective and efficient way.
