Founded in 1997, the Kent Island Outrigger Canoe Club (KIOCC) is hosted by the Kent Island Yacht Club, offering the finest venue for paddling on the East Coast, with easy access to the eastern Chesapeake Bay. KIOCC offers a warm 'ohana (family) to the sport of competitive Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling. The Monocacy Canoe Club (MCC) is the fastest growing paddling organization in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., area, and is also the club most steeped in tradition. Potomac Whitewater Racing Center is a whitewater training center under the auspices of the American Canoe Association. Membership dues help the PWRC maintain access and facilities at NRG’s Dickerson Whitewater Course, the Feeder Canal, and the Model Basin. The Club owns two islands in the Potomac River: Sycamore Island and Rupperts Island. All club facilities are located on the lower Island, Sycamore. Rupperts Island, which is directly upstream, is home to beaver, cormorants, geese and other wildlife. Flat-water canoeing can be enjoyed in the quiet water around the islands. The club maintains a canoe-shed to store member-owned canoes. The club also owns several canoes which are stored separately that can be used by members and their guests.
