    The Amateur Boat Builders Association (ABBA) is a community of passionate boat builders and restorers, utilising timber, aluminium, fibreglass and other materials. About half the members currently have projects under way, ranging from dinghies to ocean going yachts and historic rebuilds. Others have either completed boats, are restoring classics or just have an interest in things nautical.     The Australian Model Ship Society (AMSS) formed in 1984, is a Perth, Western Australian, based group of marine hobby enthusiasts. Our members have fully operational radio controlled yachts, steamboats and powerboats, either working scale models or built specifically for racing. Others have static models, "stand off" or near scale models and some have interesting models of marine engines and ships. We have some highly gifted members who are experienced in metal working and machining whose skills have been used in the building of operational marine steam engines and boiler plant. On days suited to this type of watercraft a variety of steam driven models may be seen plying our sailing waters. Competitions for both sail and powered craft are held monthly.     We mainly race the Windrush 14 catamaran but other classes are welcomed (and handicapped accordingly!). Sailing in Exmouth Gulf is safe and convenient as long as one pays attention to the tides and weather forecast. Racing occurs throughout the year every second Sunday and most races are held in the gulf just off from the EYC itself. The club could not survive and thrive without new members so anyone interested in the chance to sail a catamaran, whether as crew or skipper, should come along on race day for some good fun and sport! The WA Speed Boat Club has raced at Matilda Bay (Crawley), Coode Street (South Perth) and at Heirisson Island before moving to their present location - at the Burswood Water Sports Centre in Camfield Drive, in front of the Burswood Resort and Casino.
