  • Moth - International Moth Class Association Moth - International Moth Class Association
Being a development class, the moth has evolved from a hull in the 1930's that could best be described as a heavy, narrow scow or a blunt nosed skiff, (weighing about 50 kg) to today's remarkable foilers with hull weights of under 10 kg,. Designs have run the gamut from wide skiffs without wings, to lightweight scows, to wedge-shaped hulls characterized with narrow waterlines and hiking wings out to the maximum permitted beam. Likewise, the sail plan has evolved from cotton sails on wooden spars, through the fully battened Dacron sails on aluminum spars stage, to the windsurfer inspired sleeved film sails on carbon masts seen today.

  • National 18 National 18
The National 18 was born in 1938 following a design competition organised by the then YRA (now RYA) and the Yachting World magazine. The original idea was that of Frank Knowling of Whitstable YC (later to be known as the father of the class) for an 18 foot sailing dinghy, suitable for day sailing, yet fast enough to be of interest to racing sailors and at a reasonable cost. The plan was to produce an affordable national alternative to the many local onedesigns of about this size to be found right round the coast of the British Isles. Many of these local estuary classes survive today, for example the Mermaid in Dublin, Thames Estuary OD, Chichester Harbour 18 etc.

The 12 is a development class which means designs have evolved since the first boats hit the water in 1936. Modern boats are carbon/composite foam sandwich whilst many beautiful wooden vintage boats are still actively sailing. The variety of designs means there's likely to be one that's perfect for you. Some are better for lighter crews whilst others carry weight well.

  • Nicholson 31 Association Nicholson 31 Association
The Nicholson 31 Association was formed in May 2004, 28 years after the launch of the first Nicholson 31, to bring together owners from around the globe. The design brief in 1975 for the Nicholson 31 was for a small cruising yacht capable of passage making in any condition that could be met by its crew undertaking coastal and deep water cruising. To have the displacement to accommodate its equipment and stores for extended cruising and to provide the necessary accommodations. That the brief has been met in the intervening years is answered by the voyages made by 31's throughout the world, to so many cruising destinations and countries. To read their logs is to be reminded of their owners and crews remarkable fortitude and seamanship.

  • Norfolk Punt Owners Association - UK Norfolk Punt Owners Association - UK
Pointed at both ends, 22ft long, 22 meters of sail, no maximum spinnaker size, no minimum weight. The Norfolk Punt was derived from the flat-bottomed gun punts that roamed the Broadland waters in the mid-to-late 19th century. However, at the turn of the 20th Century, in order to get to and from the hunting grounds more efficiently, the punters developed their craft to carry a basic mast and sail for travelling with the wind. It is from these humble beginnings that one of the country’s most exciting and powerful racing dinghy classes was born.

  • NSOA Squibs NSOA Squibs
The National Squib is a one design racing keelboat, originally designed by Oliver Lee in 1967. The class association has over 600 members. There are around 30 fleets in the UK and Ireland, racing at club, regional and national levels, on coastal, estuary and inland waters. The Squib has been described as "a lovely little yacht" but when being sailed competitively can readily be appreciated for performance characteristics more akin to a racing dinghy. One of the main strengths of the one design Squib is that a properly prepared boat – either a new one or a boat originally up to forty years old, can be sailed competitively in the national fleet for 10 or even twenty years, thus making the best of any initial investment. It is not necessary to change boats regularly to be competitive. Based in the UK
