Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club was officially founded in 1903. It is located on Yacht Club Island approximately 2 miles from Kenora, Ontario on Lake of the Woods. Lake of the Woods features excellent sailing conditions, with over 14,000 islands; 65,000 miles of shoreline; and stretching from Kenora in the north to Warroad, Minnesota in the south. The club has some 350 members, who today race and cruise their yachts in the Firth and the West Coast of Scotland. The principal event organized by the club is the Savills Kip Regatta in May, which attracts sailors from outside Scotland. This major event is recognised as the warm up for the Scottish Series, which takes place two weeks later, and the new Scottish IRC Championship, which takes place a further two weeks later. Sea Scouts is all about adventure, learning, and boating! Our program focuses on sailing skills, safety, navigation, and boat maintenance, striving to let the youth lead the activities and make the decisions to the fullest extent possible, with support from a strong cadre of adult leaders.
