  • Aries Windvanes Aries Windvanes
The Aries vane gear is a wind vane that is attached to a sailing boat and gives you the posibillity to steer for you in a set course. It works on the servo pendulum system in which the vane operates a servo rudder which can swing sideways. This motion is transmitted to the tiller or wheel by ropes and blocks. The gear is suitable for all yachts up to 55 ft. L.O.A. The minimum size vessel is usually around 28 ft. L.O.A. because the gear weight of 35 kg is unacceptable on smaller boats unless they have broad stern sections. Amsterdam, The Netherlands

  • Hydrovane Self Steering System Hydrovane Self Steering System
The Hydrovane is the product of an engineer’s lifetime passion. Derek Daniels, an engineer from Nottingham, England, was the founder and inventor of the Hydrovane in 1968. He made it his life's work. The initial concept was to develop a system better than the standard servo pendulum windvane. Hydrovane and Aries were the first two windvanes on the market in the 60’s. An early Hydrovane was used by Herman Jansen for his solo circumnavigation in 1972. Others followed – notably Leslie Powles, whose remarkable non-stop circumnavigation via the five great southern Capes, confirmed its reliablity. The Hydrovane soon gained recognition in England and Europe for its clever engineering and robustness. Over the years there have been 11 different models (ex. FDA, Series 5000, Series 1200 – VXA-I and VXA-II) although the significant changes occurred in the 70's and early 80's. These culminated into the VXA-1 / VXA-2 model which has been predominant since 1986 and continues to be developed today. West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

  • The Steersman The Steersman
Sail powered self steering gear for yachts. A better alternative to Windvane, and Autohelm systems. The Steersman uses the foresail to keep your boat on track. It senses changes in wind direction and uses the forces this creates to steer the boat. The jib-sheet, at the cockpit end is attached to a swinging platform, and a shock cord spring balances against this pull. A simple linkage is then connected from here to the helm to keep your boat on course. With a large foresail in place, it senses even the most subtle changes in the wind, making the system very effective. It's easy to set, and simple to adjust. Hungerford, Berkshire, England, UK

  • Voyager Windvanes Inc., Canada Voyager Windvanes Inc., Canada
The Voyager Windvane is a servo pendulum type of selfsteering. The steering force is created by the flow of water. That energy is transmitted by the pendulum rudder and the lever arm to the wheel or tiller by means of two lines. The Voyager Windvane is constructed to last, is strong but light, is functional, simple and easy to use. Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

  • Windpilot Windpilot
Welcome to the world of silent self-steering. Servo-pendulum wind vanes. Practically every sailor who ever contemplated buying a WINDPILOT system already had hands-on experience of electrical autopilots. Knowing about autopilots means recognizing their shortcomings and it is likely some combination of these that has driven you to start looking for a better way. Experience shows that if you want to avoid steering by hand for the duration, you need an autopilot and a WINDPILOT! La Crescenta, California
