MarineWaypoints.com is pleased to announce that New Zealand Marine Artist Jim Bolland has come aboard as a contributor of Sailing Articles.

Jim focuses on New Zealand sailing, racing and the America's Cup... have a look at some of his articles.

Some of you may have noticed a slightly different look site wide... the formatting of most every page has been or is being changed for a more consistent look across the whole web site.

Also, CSS formatting is now being used extensively to make system wide changes easier in the future.

The Learning Center has been updated with the addition of some new features - Boating Rules & Regulations, Boating Courses & Racing Rules of Sailing

In the Boating Rules & Regulations section you'll find Navigation Rules (COLREGS), Federal Boating Requirements, info on State Boating Regulations, Federal Waterway Regulations and much more!

The Boating Courses section has information to help you find boating safety courses as well as learn to sail courses, and the Racing Rules of Sailing section has the rules available in pdf format.

More features will be added in the Learning Center, so check back from time to time!

The Online Charts section has been completely updated with a new service from NOAA's Office of Coast Survey. Although these charts are frequently updated and are available to view online, you should use an official NOAA printed or digital chart for navigation.

Other features of this section include paths to complementary resources such as Coast Pilot, Chart #1, Notice to Mariners, and Light Lists.

The Weather Center has been completely updated and many changes have been made. There are now many upgraded weather maps, a revised tropical storm section, new weather warnings and more!

More features will be added, so check it out here from time to time.

In moving to a new server, several problems appeared... most notably all of the PHP coded search functions. All of these have been fixed by re-writing the code to conform to the newer version of PHP on the server.

Looking for a boating, sailing, fishing, scuba diving or boating gear article? Now you can find it here with the new customized Article Search. Enter your search term in the search box at the top of most every page and select "Search Boating/Watersports Articles".

This will search over 100 of the top boating sites which offer articles on boating, gear, sailing, fishing, scuba, and other watersports. For example, here's a search for articles relating to dead reckoning.

Thanks to a contributor, retired from the Canadian Forces, the Nautical Glossary has been expanded to include terminology used by the Canadian Navy. Words, terms and phrases are included. Some of the phrases seem to be unique to the Canadian Navy, and some are quite colorful. Check it out here.

Blogs RSS feeds and blog search is now available on MarineWaypoints.com. You can click on some of the tags (keywords) as well as search blogs. This searches blog RSS feeds across the web. Check it out here. And for those of you who still don't know what a blog is, you can find the answer at Wikipedia

You can now search the contents of Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, right here on MarineWaypoints.com. Try it out by using the search function at the top of the page. Enter a search term and select "Search Wikipedia" from the drop down menu.

For example, you can find info about such things as a baggywrinkle. Go ahead and try it out!

Tide predictions are now available for most of the U.S. and Canada. Several other worldwide locations are also listed, but not as comprehensive due to lack of data. A map can also be seen of each tide location. Some improvements will be made over time, and you can check it out here.

Videos are now offered from Google and YouTube. Search for videos from Google or use one of the tags (keywords)... also try the YouTube tags. Some of the tags and keywords might lead to some unexpected results, but overall they work fine. Check it out here.
