The National Weather Service (NWS) has the responsibility for issuing warnings and forecasts to protect life and property in the maritime community. The area of responsibility covers most of the North Atlantic and North Pacific N of 30N with graphical products covering the marine areas S to 15N. Most of these products are in graphical format and prepared by the NWS's National Centers For Enviromental Prediction (NCEP) by its Ocean Prediction Center (OPC).

Wind Forecasts. Theyr.Net currently uses the work-station ETA model with some modifications on the boundary layer parameterisation on stability and surface roughness to improve the wind forecasts derived from the MOS (Model Data Output Statistics). The forecast model uses regularly updated surface fields on sea surface temperatures and snow/ice cover as possible.
