The Northern Shipwrecks Database project is an inventory of more than 100,000 North American shipwrecks. Since 1979, the Northern Shipwrecks Database project has documented more than 100,000 North American wrecks. In use by two federal governments, their navies, several government departments, many universities, museums and libraries plus hundreds of divers, this database has grown from 6,600 records on paper in 1988, to 65,000 DOS-ified records in 1997, and lately more than 100,000 records in a searchable Windows format.

Scientific diving programs allow research diving teams to operate under the exemption from OSHA commercial diving regulations. One of the primary contribution's of the AAUS to the Scientific Diving Community is the promulgation of The AAUS Standards for Scientific Diving Certification and Operation of Scientific Diving Programs. A consensual guideline for scientific diving programs, this document is currently the "Standard" of the scientific diving community.

- IDEA - The pioneer in diving education
International Diving Educators Association. IDEA was originally established in 1952 as part of the Florida Skin Divers Association, which later became Florida Scuba Divers Association (FSDA). Committee members of the original Scuba Training Committee decided that they had outgrown FSDA and a new name, a new logo and a new direction was forthcoming. In February of 1978, the members voted to expand the Scuba Training Committee to an International Certification Agency, based upon the same principles as the original committee. The International Diving Educators Association (IDEA) was officially formed.
