  • Honolulu Pearl Canoe Club (HPCC) Honolulu Pearl Canoe Club (HPCC)
    We paddle with sincere Aloha. We are conveniently located at Pearl Harbor next to USS Arizona Memorial. We practice at the Rainbow Bay Marina Canoe Hale at the historical waters of Pearl Harbor. Although Honolulu Pearl has a large military and Department of Defense (DoD) affiliated membership, the club is open to all persons. HPCC members enjoy 6-man outrigger canoe paddling at both competitive and non-competitive levels. Honolulu Pearl maintains a program for youth ages up to 18 years of age, to give our Keiki a chance to participate in this beautiful sport. The Keiki Program is open to all children interested in paddling and is a great opportunity for kids to execise, learn a great sport, make new friends, participate in races, learn about Hawaiian culture and history, and most of all have fun.   • Hui Nalu O Hawai'i Hui Nalu O Hawai'i
    Hui Nalu, the "Club of the Waves", was founded in 1908 by Duke Kahanamoku, Knute Cottrell and Ken Winter. Based at the Moana Hotel in Waikiki, swimming was the primary activity of the club in the early years. Club members also enjoyed surfing, canoe paddling and kanikapila. Hui Nalu's mission is to provide educational activities for individuals, families and the community revolving around ocean activities. The summer regatta season involves age group and open races in lengths from 1/4 to 1-1/2 miles. The ages of the participants range from 10 to 70+ years.     The Kawaihae Canoe Club, a "Perennial Big Island paddling powerhouse," was formed in 1972 by a group of athletic and civic-minded individuals from Waimea. Athletic activities were sorely needed at the time. The ancient Hawaiian sport of outrigger canoe racing was being revived on other parts of the Islands. According to old-timers, the sport was active at Kawaihae many years before. It seemed fitting to continue the tradition. We are a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and perpetuating this cultural event. Some two hundred individuals make up the Kawaihae Canoe Club.     ALOHA! Our club is located in Honolulu at Magic Island in the Ala Moana Beach Park. We welcome both new and seasoned paddlers ages 9 and up. The Koa Kai Canoe Club started in 1979 as a hui of Honolulu Police officers who wanted to paddle together. Simply put, they saw paddling as a way to extend the camaraderie they had in the workplace to a water sport that they and their families could enjoy. Despite the obstacles of their work schedules, their resolve rang true: some way, somehow they were going to paddle, and they were going to paddle together. Now the club is comprised of a good mix of paddlers other than police officers and their families. Today, Koa Kai has 70 active members consisting of both youth and adult paddlers.     Puna Canoe Club was formed in 1975 by a small group of individuals, mainly from Kalapana, who cared for and enjoyed the land and ocean. The canoe club was originally called Ku Maka Ula after the ancient Hawaiian heiau (temple) at world famous black sand Kaimu Beach in Kalapana. In 1979 the name was changed to Puna Paia'ala I Ka Hala O Kalapana for cultural sensitivity reasons, however, the club was simply known as Puna from this time. Puna Canoe Club has always recognized and appreciated the recreational and social aspects of canoe paddling. However, on Puna's move to Hilo it also adopted a greater focus on competitive excellence.     The Waikiki BeachBoys Canoe Club (WBBCC) was formed in 1973 by a group of Waikiki BeachBoys that all had a similar vision but paddled for different clubs. They decided to come together to form a club that would promote the image of the original Waikiki BeachBoys… men who respected the ocean and mastered the skills of surfing and outrigger canoe paddling, while spreading the spirit of Aloha. WBBCC continues to promote the image of the original Waikiki BeachBoys and the spirit of Aloha through its paddling events and its members. A number of the members still work the beaches of Waikiki and some are employed as lifeguards and firemen, patrolling the shores of Hawaii, making the waters safe and enjoyable for residents and tourists.
