AOCA proactively encourages and lobbies for commercial, corporate and government policies and practices that provide sustainable marine conservation. AOCA is well known for its unique campaign work, exciting research projects and education and awareness initiatives, and its role in being prepared to speak out for those who cannot. - KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board
The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board has been successfully protecting the province’s bathing beaches from shark attack for more than 40 years. Its research into bather protection, with as little impact on the environment as possible, is respected world-wide and there is a continuing exchange of information with overseas countries, notably Australia as well as USA and other countries experiencing shark incidents. KwaZulu-Natal has the only coastline in South Africa that is protected by shark safety gear. The KZN Sharks Board maintains shark safety gear at 38 localities and is the only institute of its kind in the world, offering safe bathing to tourists while also conducting research into shark life history and offering a public education programme.
