Today's Kalmar Nyckel is a re-creation of a three-masted, square-rigged, gun-armed merchant ship. The original Kalmar Nyckel was one of America's pioneering colonial ships, a Mayflower of the Delaware Valley. Kalmar Nyckel was probably resold to the Dutch navy as an escort vessel and sunk in the North Sea while fighting for the Dutch in a war against the English in 1652. The present-day Kalmar Nyckel serves as floating classroom and inspirational centerpiece for the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation's award-winning educational programs, engaging students of all ages and stimulating them to learn more about Delaware's rich maritime and colonial history. The Kalmar Nyckel offers a wide array of sailing opportunities — from May through October. Guests are invited to haul lines, set sails, and enjoy tales of the original Kalmar Nyckel — or become a "pirate" with the crew on special pirate sails. At Shark's Cove Marina, we offer "New" Pontoon Boats rentals that can seat up to 10 people. Our customers over the past 15 years have enjoyed fishing, crabbing or just a fun filled day in the sun. We rent pontoons for two hours, 1/2 day (four hours), or whole day (eight hours). We also offer charters on pontoon boats as well. We also rent center consoles, kayaks, standup paddleboards, and waverunners. We have a full service repair shop! We can fix motors, fiberglass, and upholstry. We also install all electronics!
