Founded in 1955 when three friends (Oscar Swee, Dr. John Pierpont, and Bill Peet) formed the club to promote sailing and racing on Lake Superior. AIYC has always been a family club; many of us have belonged for generations. Originally called "Bayfield Yachts," the club eventually grew large enough to purchase the point of land called Dock 8. Dock 8 had been a lumber mill and fish cleaning station for the local commercial fishing fleet. AIYC has had many improvements over the years. A seawall was built in 2009. Most recently, the clubhouse was completely rebuilt in 2017. Apostle Islands Yacht Club is not a marina—we are a private club owned and operated by its members. OLYC is proud of the long history of developing quality racing fleets and sailors that are recognized as among the best nationally. The core of this goal is met by managing and supporting four primary racing fleets on the lake (C Scows, MC Scows, X Boats, and OPTI's). The Yacht Club also works closely with the Okauchee Lake Sailing School (OLSS) to provide fully staffed sailing classes to our youth sailors. In addition to racing, the club operates a fully functional clubhouse on the north shore of Okauchee Lake that supports social events for its membership throughout the year. Oconomowoc, Wisconsin
