    Since 1998, AVAL Sailing Center is the reference point for Sailing on Como Lake. Il Centro Vela Alto Lario was founded in 1998 and is a merger of the two existing sailing clubs of Gravedona: the AVAL (associazione velica alto Lario founded in 1938) and the CDV (centro diffusione vela founded in 1964). The main reasons that led to the union of the two sailing clubs was the desire to create a nautical center that organizes sailing events of national and international level, to give a chance to young people who want to approach this wonderful sport offering sailing courses at all levels; with the aim of forming new skilled sailors. Founded by Gabriele D'Annunzio in 1928, it is one of the most active sailing clubs at an international level, as well as Guinness World Records with the Garda Optimist Meeting. From year to year the young people, trained athletes and members achieve excellent results in the various classes and events: national titles, but also continental and world championship victories.     The Costa Smeralda Yacht Club , founded in 1967 by SA President Aga Khan, is renowned for organizing international regattas for superyachts, maxi yachts and one-design boats. From its inception, the Club has regularly run regattas in collaboration with the most important Italian yacht clubs, including involvement with the America's Cup. The regattas organized by the Club and the victories collected by the Members under its banner have helped to ensure the Club a leading role in the world of international yachting. Among the prestigious classes that often race in Costa Smeralda we point out J Class, Wally Class, TP52, RC44, ClubSwan 50, Melges 32, J / 70, Maxi 72.     Founded in 1976, organizes national and international sporting events, has a youth sailing program, and is active an America's Cup Challenge. The Club was originally located near the Piazzetta dell'Approdo. It didn't take long for the Club to feel the need of undertaking institutional sporting activities and so the first sailing events began. At the same time, the fast growth of the number of members and the quantity and quality of the events, made the need to give the Club a suitable location. The new Club House was inaugurated on July 7th, 1995. Sport has also given force to the Club sailing school which had the chance to develop its structure, its fleet and the number of attendees to courses and youth events.
