  • Chester Sailing and Canoeing Club new
    The Chester Sailing and Canoeing Club was formed in 1956 as a joint club to cater for both canoeing and sailing on the River Dee. The Club house is about a mile from the centre of Chester. The first floor has a large recreation room overlooking the river with a bar, extensive seating and a pool table. Outside, there is a flat area for sitting out on summer evenings and the occasional barbecue. The ground floor, at river level, has changing rooms for the canoeists.     The Club now based in its clubhouse at 38-40 Shore Road, Portaferry started as Cooke Street Sailing Club in 1968, named after a previous sailing club in the town which ceased operating in 1956. The Club itself has been responsible over the years for running national and international sailing events and is recognised as an excellent centre for competitive racing in Strangford Lough. The Club's social activities/events have always tried to support and complement events on the water and without the associated financial support the Club could not operate as effectively as it does.     Established in 1950, RCC has encouraged and facilitated sailing on the Ribble estuary (and further a field) for 60 years. We have a comfortable clubhouse with a well stocked bar, fully equipped galley and large lounge with arguably the best available panoramic views of the Ribble estuary. RCC's cruising fleet of some 100 yachts is based at our 'dock' facility about a mile upriver from the clubhouse, enjoying both the best non-commercial yacht facilities available on this part of the coast and easy tidal access to the Irish Sea.     Scammonden Water Sailing Club formed in 1971 when the M62 motorway was built and is believed to be the only reservoir with a 6 lane motorway on its dam wall and surrounded by greenbelt elsewhere. We have a sailing area of 42 hectares water totalling 1,700 million gallons, which means we can cover plenty of water. Our club has ample free parking, a boat park for more than 100 boats, and the clubhouse has male and female changing rooms, a bar to unwind in after a day's sail, games room and kitchen.     Strangford Sailing Club is situated on the shores of Castleward Bay, overlooking the beautiful Strangford narrows to Portaferry. Strangford Sailing Club moorings are located in Audley's Roads at the north end of Castleward Bay. Strangford Sailing Club is a RYA recognised Training Club and we presently have a enthusiastic Junior Section who sail Toppers, Lasers & Optimists on Friday evenings and Sundays during the season. Many of these young sailors compete at open events at other clubs. The club runs training courses during the school holidays.     The Club’s premises are alongside Wardleys Creek which runs into the River Wyre in the village of Hambleton. Mud berths have been carved into the side of the creek, and there are also a number of jetties which are maintained by the boat owners. Accommodation ashore includes a large clubhouse with lounge seating area and views over the river from an enclosed balcony. Members cruise on Morecambe Bay, the Irish Sea and well beyond.
