If can find a way to make them lighter, stronger, more durable or prettier, we do it. We have changed to Dynel edges on all paddles except the Greenland style as it reduces the weight, improves the balance on canoe paddles and lowers the swing weight on kayak paddles, it looks better and significantly improves the durability. • Gillespie Paddles
I've been building Outrigger paddles and touring canoe paddles for around 30 years. I got my start making flatwater racing paddles -- about a year after angled paddles were created by Eugene Jensen. So I've gone through every phase of the angled paddle evolution. I am mostly about wood paddles, since there is something about cutting, gluing and shaping wood that just has it all over molding glass and fiber.....it is nowhere near as icky, and smells good to boot.

  • Mudbrook Racing Paddles
We build paddles with performance in mind. We build only natural wood racing paddles. We had the choice to build either carbon-fiber or wood paddles, but decided in favor of wood. However, being practical we do agree with the use of carbon shafts for certain types of paddles, such as stand up paddles for instance. These shafts are so long that strength and weight becomes the number one factor. Also carbon shafts are very good at transferring energy instantly along vey long shafts, but when it comes to shorter canoe shafts, carbon is light weight, but too stiff and takes its toll on your shoulders, elbows and wrist joints. Wood paddles are friendlier to the joints.
