The Little Brig Sailing Trust operates the world's smallest tall ships to provide the complete tall ship sailing experience to young people aged 10 years upwards. All of our voyages are about fun, adventure and taking on a challenge and no sailing experience is needed to join in! Our main mission is to support the Tall Ships Youth Trust in helping Young People to realise their true potential through the crewing of our varied fleet of sailing vessels. We take over 3,000 people sailing every year and on average over 70% of the Young People are disadvantaged or disabled. We also offer Adult Voyages. Welcome to a unique sail training experience with Tall Ships Adventures; a holiday with a difference! Our adult voyages cater for 18 to 80 year olds so whether you are in education or in need of some time off work, get on board, meet likeminded people and embark on a challenge together. A Tall Ships Adventure is a hands-on experience, you will become an important part of the vessels crew and this involves more than just the sailing. We encourage everyone to participate and help with the running of the vessel, from the cooking and cleaning to the maintenance required on board. For over 40 years the East Coast Sail Trust has provided 5-day cruises for children between the ages of 9 and 16 as they learn the seafaring skills of teamwork, self-reliance and values. In this time some 10,000 children have benefited from this unique experience which enriches and remains with them for the rest of their lives. Our 5 day cruises are not limited to school children but are also extended to young adults sponsored by social services, disability charities, military resettlement organisations and any organisation where the experience of living and working in a different world can be seen to build the qualities of good citizenship and foster team building and leadership skills. The Thames sailing barge Thalatta is the key part of the experience offered. Thanks to Heritage Lottery funding to supplement the Trust's own funds she has been completely restored to 'as new' condition and refitted to provide accommodation for 12 passengers and a crew of 3 to 4. We are a Watersports based Charity changing people's lives and building life skills through sailing and rowing. Our primary objective is giving opportunities for disadvantaged and at-risk youths and we offer opportunities for disabled people to participate in activities and courses on an equal level. We use the medium of sailing, rowing and water based activities to break down social barriers and provide innovative training. Teaching transferable and employable skills are at the heart of everything we do and at the same time building: Life skills, self-confidence, team building and self-esteem. The Trust helps disadvantaged young people between the ages of 8 and 25 none of whom could even contemplate sailing without the Trust's help. The sailing experiences offered provide excellent team building experiences, allows the development of social and independent living skills, builds confidence and self-esteem and develops personal initiative. Whilst the emphasis is on personal development the young people will learn technical sailing skills and general safety awareness. From very small beginnings we have grown, now helping hundreds of young people annually, from every background from across the UK, to get out on the water and experience the joy, adventure and freedom of a voyage at sea.
